12 Months

I'm a little late on this - but wanted to finish up the year of monthly posts on the Little Bug.

She had her 1 year well check last week and measured in at 29 inches long and 19lbs 6oz (up 8.5" and 10lbs 5oz since birth). The only surprising thing at her well check was that her pediatrician told us to feed her MORE. For anyone who has seen her eat, that will not be easy! She eats like a horse already. She's not "under"weight, but apparently could afford to gain a little more.

I thought her well check was done and then Dr. H came back in with one of their rounding residents. She asked if she could show him Fiona because "we don't often get to see these spina bifida kiddos when we are residents ... and especially atypical ones like Fiona." Brag up my baby ... fine by me, doc! So we spent about 10 minutes discussing Fiona, her many accomplishments, her obstacles, my pregnancy, etc. It was very interesting to hear his questions. Our main thought was that the residents right now are going to be the ones caring for Fiona and other wonderful kids like her in the future. We want them to get the exposure they need to understand and love these kids. We'll continue to assist with opportunities when they come up ... until such day that she decides she doesn't want to. But hopefully between us and her amazing Uncle Joshy, she will be inspired to be an advocate for herself and others.

She is quite the little person these days. An incessant chatterbox and climber. And very funny. Last night, I was talking to my dad on speakerphone so she could say "hi" to him. She was playing next to me and suddenly climbed into my lap, put her mouth right next to the phone, and said "ba ba ba ba ba BA BA BA ... AAAH!" Then started laughing and crawled back to her toys. She clearly told Grandpa a joke. Too bad he didn't understand it. Judging by her laughter, it was a funny one!

Fun Friday: Birthday Videos

As promised (mostly to Auntie Tracey), here are a couple videos from Fiona's first birthday party.

This video is of her first cupcake (banana ... yes, I'm that mom). She loved it and ate the whole thing. She's a slow eater, so I edited the video to give you the highlights. As you can see, she's all about people singing to her! Awesome.

This next video is of a very special birthday present. Fiona's cousins, Nate and Ben, were unable to attend the party because poor Nate was sick. But they sent a wonderful recorded book of them reading her a bedtime story. Here is her listening to it for the first time. Thank you, Nate and Ben. Fiona sends lots of love to you both!

Down One Kid

We are back from vacation ... but are still short a kid. Yogi has been on vacation as well - at Grandma and Grandpa N's. He has been there since Fiona's birthday party and is scheduled to return home on Saturday. That is TWO weeks without the furry guy here. And we miss him!

Fiona crawls around saying "pup pup," Mike can eat cheese uninterrupted, and I have to clean the floor after dinner and lay on the bed by myself until M comes to bed. It just isn't right.

Although enjoying himself very much, Yogi is experiencing his own challenges as the stupid little dogs (read: cats) at Gma and Gpa's just will not play with him - no matter how hard he tries. We fear that he is being spoiled like crazy (he is at his grandparents after all) and will be impossible to live with after this! But we are counting the days until he comes home.

I thought I would share a couple of our favorite pictures of him. Gma and Gpa - give him a hug for us!

Birthday Girl

Fiona is officially a toddler today. She had a great time at day care where they serenaded her often. And she got her own cupcake at snack. The girl does love a good party!

We had a family and friends party for her on Saturday, which was a blast as well. All in all, we believe Fiona has celebrated that first birthday in style! She is turning into an incredible little person and we absolutely love spending time with her.

I'll share a few pictures of her birthday celebration here. I also have a few videos, but you'll have to wait on those. I need to do some video editing and with the big trip to Colorado sneaking up on us, I just don't have time. Stay tuned for "first cupcake" and "bedtime story from Nate and Ben" videos in a week or so.

Happy Birthday, Little Bug! Mommy, Daddy, and Yogi love you more than you know!
