When our original Easter weekend plans changed, I started brainstorming other options. I've been trying to keep the fun firing to distract Fiona from the upcoming surgery (I'm writing this while sitting next to her at the hospital). I looked outside, saw our lovely backyard, and decided that we would invite our buddies Ellie, Oliver, Jack, Cooper, and Hannah over for an egg hunt on Saturday. So I did. And then I told Mike. As we've discussed before, it often works out that these great plans are my brainchild and his labor (see Garage-Giving).

Easter Saturday started out beautifully, but a look at the weather showed a rather large storm moving in. I really really wanted to do the egg hunt outside, but Mike wisely pointed out that 95 eggs full of candy out in the rain were less than ideal. Just before we made the final commitment to hide the eggs in the basement, we checked the weather one more time. The storm was still coming, but progress had slowed. We positioned the short Vs at the table for snack with strict "no peeking" instructions and headed out to the back yard. Once the eggs were hidden, we had to pull the blinds to prevent a complete home team advantage! They were definitely trying to scope it out!
Our buddies arrived with baskets, bags, buckets and tackle boxes. We lined up on the deck for a quick photo op and then Mike said "go." Oh - the fun!! Watching seven little ones run around the yard was just the best. And the big kids were SO sweet to the littles. Just about every big kid dumped an egg in Declan's bucket as they ran by. Brad even said he wanted to egg hunt like D - just stand around and have others do the work! The rain started just as we finished up the hunt (all 95 eggs were accounted for!).

Then we had an Easter ham dinner and watched The Easter Bunny is Coming to Town (with popcorn!). Our kids had so much fun and even Mike has said that we may need to make this an annual event. All the kids have a great time - and we get to see our friends too!
On Easter proper, the kids found their baskets and eggs from the bunny. Then we headed up to Auntie's for a fun day with her and Gma and Gpa J. It was a lovely, laid back Easter day. And the kids were thrilled to get their fancy on - as the Easter bunny brought a fedora for Declan and clip-on earrings for the girls. Other than the water heater breaking (sigh), it was a lot of fun to help us launch this crazy week.
