1. She has a gappy smile that is only going to get a bigger gap. On Dec's birthday, Fiona lost a top front tooth. The other top front one is on its last legs ... or whatever it is that teeth are on. Mike tried to pop it out tonight, but it wasn't quite ready. I suspect it will fall out in the next few days. Then she'll really be able to fit veggie straws through her tooth hole.
2. She's legitimately reading books. It's so fun to watch. She and Quinn have been reading at day care and doing grade level workbooks during the littles' rest time - and she is really enjoying being able to self direct a bit on her work.
3. We have some tweenager attitude showing up - and have been working very hard to let her know that she not old enough to pull that 'tude yet. We are working on the concept of respect across the small V board.
Quinn
1. She's killing it at swimming lessons and is suddenly very determined to learn to swim. One of our favorite things about Quinn is that when she decides to do something, she's flat out going to do it. She is also very pleased that Daddy has purchased an orange pool noodle for her for the trip to the cabin.
2. Quinn is very sweet to Yogi lately - as long as no one is watching. I often will walk into a room and find her kneeling next to him, petting him gently. She is the least fond of animals of the kids, but she and Yogs have found their sweet spot together. I think she may be his favorite as well.
3. Quinn remains the planner of the family. She was quite alarmed while we were making dinner tonight that we go to GR on Saturday and nary a thing was packed. "When are you going to pack, Mommy? You know the day after tomorrow is the day we leave, right, Mommy." Q was quite relieved to come in from bike riding with Daddy tonight to find a bag packed and sitting by the stairs in the staging area. "Thank goodness, Mommy. That's better."
Declan
1. Declan is not killing it at his sports camp and swimming lessons. Three years of watching his big sister struggle to separate has left him quite anxious. We continue to give him the opportunity, but I think this will, yet again, require some patience on our part. The fact that Q is now doing much better gives us hope.
2. He is a biking and scootering machine. He's all over the neighborhood/campground/bike trails on Fiona's old 12" bike and LOVES it. He is also extremely proficient on his new two-wheel scooter.
3. D is testing his limits. He was a bit of a turkey at day care yesterday. When I asked him if he had followed the rules at Ms. A's, he said "I did not." And when I asked him why, he said "because I didn't want to." The impression that not wanting to follow the rules made it okay to ignore them has been corrected. With great clarity. Preschool will be a good thing for him this fall!
So there you go. Three fun facts about each of the kids right now.
