Baker Brrr

See what I did there ... I changed "Baker Boo" to "Baker Brrr" because it was a dang cold camping trip last weekend. Mike laughed when I told him the title - and that pretty much sealed it for me. He called me a dork. I told him that his pride in his MacGyver switch farm after the theater got struck by lightning (true story. It melted basically his whole network and he cobbled together a switch farm with random parts to get the box office back online. Also, if you mention the lightning strike in front of any of our children, we can no longer be friends with you) is how I feel about putting words together in a creative way. Mine just requires less duct tape.

Side note: Mike also "cracked a safe" (opened a locked fireproof file cabinet) that the folks at the theater haven't been able to get into for decades. We should maybe watch less Burn Notice. I joke. We shouldn't watch less Burn Notice.

Last Friday, we loaded up the troops, the camper, and several heaters and blankets to head to our second annual "actual camping" at Baker Boo weekend. Before we even had the tent beds popped out, C's mom told us that she'd already booked the sites for next year. We weren't sad about that fact. Friday afternoon was windy, but the sun was out so the chill was manageable. The kids ran around, explored the woods, and hit up various tall people for snacks. We made camp and helped get all the Halloween decorations out.

Just as the kids were starting to fritz out a bit, Mike and Dec found the world's largest leaf pile. All fifteen of us headed over to check it out - and the afternoon was saved. The kids climbed on hay bales and jumped in leaves for the next hour. Just as we were pulling dinner off the grill, they all wandered back. Or at least we assumed it was our children under all the leaves stuck to them!

A pretty serious soccer game started up after dinner. It looked so fun that we attracted extra children from other sites as well. Once it got dark, the game got even more interesting. Have you ever played soccer by light of campfire?!?! Dec lived his best life and impressed Libby with his natural ability. He proudly announced that he wants to play soccer this spring. Mike was not sad about that.

After a round of s'mores where C judged me a little for the small amount of chocolate that the Vs get on their treat, it was off to bed for the small ones. We sat around the fire ... and some of us continued to edge closer to the fire as the evening went on. Despite practically sitting in the flames, I got a bit too chilled by the time I went to bed and had a tough time getting warm enough in the "not hot" camper.

Saturday morning dawned a bit frosty (it had gotten down to 29 overnight). So we snuggled into the tiny table area for bagels to start what promised to be a fun day.
