And the Candy Man Can

Sometimes it amazes me that Mike fits so well with my family. Johnsons are food people - but really, we are dessert people. When we started dating, if given a choice between a bowl of raw vegetables and chocolate cake for dessert, Mike would without a doubt choose the vegetables. Actually, he would probably still make that choice today.

But there has been a change since I got pregnant. Here is a before and after story to show the change in Mike's dessert preference over the last 5 years ...

Five years ago - shortly after we got engaged:
Mike and I head to GR to look at reception sites for the wedding. We go out to eat with Mom, Dad, and Emmy. The restaurant forgets to put in Mike's dinner order so when our food comes out, no plate comes for Mike. He has to wait another 15 minutes or so to get food, so to make up for the inconvenience, the waitress brings him a complimentary piece of chocolate ganache cake. Mike poorly times a trip to the restroom as the cake is coming out.

By the time he returns (maybe 3 minutes later), his future wife and in-laws have polished off his free cake except for one bite! Thankfully he still married me.

Earlier this summer, hanging with the girls at an S-town softball game:
Me: Mike is totally confusing me lately. He is obsessed with eating Kit Kats. He ate a whole bag of them last weekend.

Beth: I wonder what deficiency would lead to a Kit Kat craving.

Elissa (with a totally straight face): Wafer.

The wafer craving has continued and Mike is pounding another bag of Kit Kats this week. It's funny to watch, mostly because he is so confused by his need for chocolate.
