Sous Chefs

We were going to have our annual Easter egg hunt today. The terrible rainstorms overnight and through the morning (and predicted for the afternoon) made us postpone the egg hunt until next Saturday. We confirmed with our friends that they could all do next week and sadly watched the rain fall. Within an hour after we called it, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and a most glorious spring day was born. Dang it anyway!!!

The girls and I walked home from church after Fiona's practice. We spent lots of time outside on bikes and scooters, jumping on the trampoline, and exploring the neighborhood. But in the midst of all that non-egg hunt outside time, Quinn, Declan, and I spent some quality time in the kitchen. Quinn had picked lemon pudding bars out of my newest cooking magazine to bring to Auntie's tomorrow for Easter. They had four layers, so took a bit of time (but look delicious!). Q happily donned on her "bakeron" (apron) and chef hat to help me. She was so proud and did a lot of the work for the bars.

After we finished the bars and handed them over to Gpa to put in the garage fridge (and hoped he wouldn't go AWOL with them), we made up for our postponed egg hunt disappointment by making a traditional ham Easter dinner. Q and D helped me mix up some cheesy potatoes too. Dec insisted that he get a "dress and hat too" (apron and hat), so Q ran downstairs to get him an official outfit.

What started out as a dreary "stuck inside" day turned out to be quite a bit of unplanned fun.
