The Tale of Two Halloween Parties

Two bees and a tiger
I'm worried that by the time Halloween rolls around, the kids will be all "whatever, mom. Trick or treating is old news." Okay, I lie. They would trick or treat all month if I let them!

They have been trick-or-treating twice already, so are getting in some practice before the Great Pumpkin day. The day before I left for Denver, we headed to the annual Pumpkins in the Park festival in S-town. It was an uncharacteristically warm fall day in Minnesota - with temps in the mid-70s. The girls were perfectly comfortable in their bumble bee costumes, and Dec looked at me like "seriously, lady" when he was bundled up in his very warm tiger costume. They were all so cute in stripes!

Warm weather costuming
We got to Pumpkins in the Park early enough to beat much of the crowd (and get the free Qboda. Yum!). The kids trick-or-treated down the path, jumped in the bounce houses, checked out the fire engine, played some games, and carefully chose their pumpkins. We ran into their buddy Bella, which was also a fun surprise. We finished up the night with a viewing of Spookly the Square Pumpkin

Then the weekend after I got back from Denver, we headed up to Baker campground to meet B&C and the family. Every year, during MEA weekend, Baker campground has the Baker Boo ... where all the sites are decorated for Halloween, there are games and food in a central area during the day, and then a costume parade and trick-or-treating at dark.

With a few more layers on
We headed up to the campground early to try out the games and spend some extra time with our friends. The girls enjoyed exploring the woods with Jack and Cooper - especially finding their "secret hideout." Declan loved playing ball with the big boys and impressed Uncle B with his throwing arm. We even let the girls get their faces painted - a big hit. It was a chilly fall day that got colder when the sun went down. A totally different experience than trick-or-treating the week before! The girls and I got some good practice layering clothes under bumble bee costumes and Declan was pleased with the warmth of his tiger suit.

Two weekends, two different temperatures - but both a ton of fun. Practice makes perfect so we should be ready for Saturday night.
