The Universe Thinks It's Hilarious

Remember when, two and a half months ago, I wrote that I really like the status quo and that change is not really my thing. Apparently that was a direct challenge to the universe to see how many spins it could put us through in a short time. Even Mike, who is not at all change adverse, is begging the universe to ease up.

At the risk of pushing the universe into overdrive, I think the months of mass chaos may be coming to an end. We are hopefully just left with our usually daily chaos - and that, we can handle. Some of the chaos has been on the blog already and some we have been holding a little tighter to the chest. Two things we've (re)learned this week as we pushed through the final days of the sprint. 1) always kiss your mama (cough ... Declan!). because 2) you are never too old to need your mama! [BIG thanks to both our moms for the help this week/weekend!]

Since mid-January, we have:

• Found a new day care and transitioned Quinn and Declan to a new Ms. A
• Sorted through a lot of preschool options and landed on a plan for Quinn for this fall
• Registered Fiona for Kindergarten
• Survived a week of mom out of town for work
• Had Yogi's surgery (the week I was out of town)
• Had Fiona's surgery
• Celebrated the standard set of important holidays ... Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, and Auntie's birthday
• Jumped in an ice covered lake

And oh yeah, Mike was looking for a new job through all of that! We kickstarted the search when we spotted a job with the S-town school district - right in the middle of the day care search. While that job wasn't the right fit, it did inspire us to get his resume up-to-date and to find the right fit. The search was actually really fast (in the context of a job search). Just over a month after he started looking, he had a very fair offer in hand. The timing worked out so that he was "unemployed" the week of Fiona's surgery and started his new position at Anchor Bank last Monday. One week in, he seems to really like it. 

Mike was at his previous company for over twelve years, so neither of us just switch job on the turn of a dime. It's tough to go from a "seasoned veteran" at a company to the newbie. But this new role has a good career path for him, better benefits, and a shorter commute. 

As week two of the new job starts, we are looking at a calendar with very few "big" dates in the near term. While the spins have been many, these changes have been good for our family. Now, maybe we can sit back for a few days and enjoy. Boring has never sounded so good.
